Welcome

WE ARE NORTH QUEENSLAND CULTURAL ARTISTS

WE ARE LEADERS IN CONTEMPORARY WEAVING

As Cultural Artists we seek to reinterpret the metaphors for the myth and meaning of our times

Okka Wikka

Okka Wikka was established in 1980 as a contemporary lawyer

cane cottage craft design business.

In 1996, world heritage closed the 20 small cottage industry

innovated by our design.

Influences: Renewable fibres, Education and Event curriculum,

Remote Youth at Risk programs,  Contemporary Master

Crafts people and Indigenous Elders and the needs of our own children.

Okka Wikka innovated teaching natural fibre craft, as a medium to

hold international Folk Craft and FOLK LORE.

Okka Wikka now focuses on curriculum design and teaching using

natural fibres.

We target networking Education, Health, Holiday Programs, Archival

Research, FNQ indigenous cultural custodians to develop an online

archive and train Indigenous Australians to take on teaching opportunities

Okka Wikka is a vehicle to carry ancestral memory, commercial and

cultural wealth, using renewable natural fibres.

Primary fibres used are Coconut Leaf, Banana trunk, Bamboo,

Hibiscus, Lawyer Cane, Lomandra, NZ flax,  Papyrus,  Pandanus,

Bulrush, etc  etc.
